Course Description: Foundations of Algebra is a first year high school mathematics course option for students who have completed mathematics in grades 6 – 8 yet will need support to bolster success in high school mathematics. Foundations of Algebra will provide many opportunities to revisit and expand the understanding of foundational algebra concepts, to prepare students for required high school mathematics courses. The course will emphasize both algebra and numeracy in a variety of contexts including number sense, proportional reasoning, quantitative reasoning with functions, and solving equations and inequalities.

Quizzes/Tests
Cell Phones: Students may not have phones OUT during any graded assignments. Students will be asked to turn off phones and put in book bags or purses during all tests. If a student has a phone out during a test it will be considered cheating. Cell phones may NOT be used during class time unless it is for instructional purposes with the teacher approval and students are not allowed to charge their devices during class.

Supply List:
- Interactive Notebook: You need to have a composition book. If you don’t have one when we start using them, we will provide you with a composition book. This will hold all of our graphic organizers, notes and practice problems completed in class. You should have a binder/folder to keep any worksheets, homework and loose paper.
- Calculators: TI-84; This calculator is permitted on the EOC and will get you through all high school math courses.
- Pencils, pens, GLUE STICKS, scissors, index cards, highlighters, colored pencils, expo markers*
- *Each student has their own whiteboard space on the walls to use daily and need dry erase markers to use
Classroom Expectations
- Be respectful to the teacher, your classmates and yourself.
- Be on time and come to class prepared. Bring paper, pencil, homework, interactive notebook, and calculator every day.
- Follow all directions the first time they are given.
Homework Policy
- Homework will be used for practice. It is the responsibility of the student to complete all homework to prepare for tests/quizzes and ask questions when necessary.
- Homework will be checked daily.
Quizzes/Tests
- Quizzes will be replaced by test, no need to make up missed quizzes.
- Quiz corrections are expected for every quiz and will count as a grade.
- Quiz corrections will be due the day after assigned.
